Release of remains of 2 Pinoys killed in UAE gas blast pending

Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Hyayceelyn Quintana said Thursday the release of the remains of the two Filipinos who died in the gas explosion in Abu Dhabi will have to wait until the investigation of the incident is finished.

At the "Laging Handa" briefing, Quintana said the embassy is already in touch with both the families of the victims and the UAE authorities to expedite the procedure.

“That is our focus right now, to repatriate the remains. The authorities here have explained to us the process of expediting the ongoing investigation and eventually the release of the remains. After that, we will sit down again to discuss the next step on how to help those left behind,” the envoy said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs had announced that five of the eight injured Filipinos have been released from the hospitals while the remaining three are recovering from “minor to moderate” injuries” in two separate medical facilities.

Quintana assured that the embassy will immediately act on the request of the families right after the investigation being conducted by the UAE has ended.

he gas explosion happened at around 10:15 a.m. Monday inside a fast food restaurant and destroyed a KFC store and other nearby shops.
