Ex-Mayor Sanchez tests negative for COVID


Former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez tested negative for COVID-19, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said Thursday.

BuCor spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said Sanchez is still confined at the New Bilibid Prison Hospital in Muntinlupa City and is in stable condition without dextrose.

Chaclag said Sanchez was diagnosed with community acquired pneumonia, acute gastroenteritis, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, and benign prostatic hypertrophy.

Sanchez was admitted at the NBP Hospital Monday.

According to DoJ spokesman Mark Perete, Sanchez has sought permission to be transferred to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Taft Ave. in Manila for further tests.

Sanchez was convicted of seven counts of rape with homicide in connection with the deaths of University of the Philippines (UP) Los Banos students Eileen Sarmenta and her boyfriend Allan Gomez in 1993.

He was also convicted of two counts of murder for the killing of Nelson Penalosa and his son Rickson, the supporters of the political rival of Sanchez and violating the Code of Conduct of Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
