Jun Asuncion became the recent player to part ways with University of Santo Tomas, having reportedly moved to Mapua University.

The Varsitarian, UST's official student publication, reported the recent development Tuesday.

Melchor Divina, Mapua's representative to the NCAA Management Committee (MANCOM), also confirmed the development to the Manila Bulletin Wednesday but said the transfer has yet to be approved by the university's academic department.

Asuncion had limited playing minutes during Season 82 and only suited up for one game where he went scoreless.

The former UST forward, however, dropped 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting in a 53-point UST rout of Technological Institute of the Philippines in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup last March before its postponement.

The 6-foot-2 Asuncion became the fifth player to leave UST, following the departure of CJ Cansino, Brent Paraiso, Rhenz Abando and Ira Bataller due to the "Sorsogon bubble" controversy.

Asuncion, however, did not attend the alleged unauthorized training camp, the report added.

The incoming sophomore will have four playing years starting Season 97 in Mapua under coach Randy Alcantara, who was a member of Aldin Ayo's coaching staff at UST.

Another set of meetings is scheduled in the coming week as no resolution was met in Tuesday’s three-hour talk between officials of the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) Group and the UAAP concerning UST and National University over alleged government health protocol violations.

UAAP, in a statement, said the league's Board of Managing Directors will convene Thursday “to review these reports and tackle other related cases before taking pertinent actions.” (With a report from Waylon Galvez)
