The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has given the go signal for the Philippine National Police (PNP) to hire 16,149 new policemen as part of the government’s efforts to keep peace and order in the country through improved police visibility in the streets.

Napolcom Vice Chairman and Executive Officer Rogelio Casurao said the approval to hire more cops is aimed at offsetting the decrease in the strength of the police force due to reorganization of the staffing pattern, creation of new offices/units, and vacancies caused by attrition.

Casurao said 10,000 of the 16,149 cops approved for hiring are under the regular recruitment program aimed at achieving the international standard of one policeman for every 500 people.
