Makati City reports over 2,000 COVID-19 recoveries

Over 2, 000 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in Makati City have recovered from the dreaded disease, the Makati Health Department (MHD) reported Tuesday (September 1).

Based on its data as of August 31, the city has a total of 2, 258 recoveries from its 3, 661 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

MHD noted that the city currently has 1, 249 active COVID-19 cases.

The village with the most number of recoveries is Barangay Pembo, with a total of 186. The said barangay recorded 309 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The data also showed that Makati City has 154 deaths related to COVID-19.

Currently, the city government is conducting a massive vaccination drive against flu and pneumonia in Makati villages amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

MHD said they are administering trivalent flu shots that cover three strains of influenza — influenza A or H1N1, influenza A or H3N2, and influenza B.

The program seeks to boost the immune system of residents and give them additional protection against the complications of COVID-19, Mayor Abigail Binay said, adding that "it will strengthen their resistance to the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 infection."

In July, the local government of Makati provided free flu and pneumonia shots to frontliners and essential workers.

According to Mayor Binay, the city’s immunization program covers all the 9,706 city hall employees, but ordered MHD to prioritize city doctors, nurses, and health personnel.
