No new COVID-19 deaths among Filipinos abroad on Nat’l Heroes Day


There were no new COVID-19 fatalities among Filipinos abroad with only one new confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) case and 3 new recoveries recorded in two countries in Asia and the Pacific, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported on Monday, as the Philippines observed National Heroes Day.

As of August 31, 2020, the total number of COVID-19 infections among overseas Filipinos is 10,070. Of which, 6,127 have recovered, 3,188 are undergoing treatment and 755 died of the disease. 

The Middle East/Africa, which comprises 27 countries, remains the combined regions with the biggest numbers of confirmed cases and deaths among Filipinos with 4,162 and 474, respectively. 

On the last Sunday of August, the DFA continued attending to the repatriation of stranded and distressed Filipinos onboard separate flights from the United Arab Emirates, the United States East Coast, Thailand, and Bahrain. 

“In line with the ongoing repatriation efforts, the DFA remains fully committed to monitoring the situation of overseas Filipinos who are affected by the pandemic and remains steadfast in promoting their welfare,” the department said in a statement.
