The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi is verifying if there are Filipinos in or near Airport Road in the United Arab Emirates capital where a bomb explosion occurred on Monday morning.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Embassy is also monitoring the developments and will extend every possible assistance to Filipino nationals.
Ambassador to UAE Hyayceelyn Quintana informed the DFA that there Embassy personnel have been dispatched on-site checking the area and coordinating with the police.
The foreign affairs office disclosed that initial information reaching the Embassy says there may be Filipinos working at the affected establishments but company management was not able to confirm this as of this writing.
It was earlier reported that there were two victims who lost their lives during the explosion – one was near the site of the incident, while the second was a passer-by who was hit by debris. No details yet were given as to their nationalities or identities.
“The Embassy joins the Filipino community in UAE in hoping that there would be no further fatalities and that others involved in the incident would have no serious injuries. The Embassy is on the alert and ready to extend assistance,” the DFA said in the statement.
