Lagusnilad underpass welcomes visitors from National Museum

The newly renovated Lagusnilad underpass in Manila continues to attract personalities, with Friday’s visitors coming from the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) led by Director-General Jeremy Barns who came with several museum staff.

In a Facebook post, the NMP shared several photos of Barns and the museum staff admiring the mural created by several Filipino artists, and the rehabilitation work ordered by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno. 

Barns was also shown viewing the well-lighted photo of the National Museum of Natural History. 

The Lagusnilad underpass serves as a connecting passage from the Manila City Hall to Intramuros and the NMP building in Padre Burgos Drive. 

“We extend our congratulations and appreciation for this project which successfully incorporates and highlights arts and history, as well as landmarks and cultural heritage in the surrounding vicinity which make Manila a great and unique city of which all Filipinos should be proud of,” the NMP said. 

The museum management thanked Moreno for highlighting the NMP building to the public and making the institution a part of the vision of Manila’s “Bagong Maynila” brand.

Other features of the newly rehabilitated underpass are a vertical garden and signs written in pre-colonial Filipino script Baybayin. 

The famous “Books from Underground”, the only store permitted by Moreno to operate at the underpass, will also return at the same spot.
