Rep. Duterte to bring trusted Davao staff to fill HoR office vacancies

DAVAO CITY - Deputy Speaker and Davao City's First Congressional District Representative Paolo Z. Duterte on Thursday said he would bring in some of his trusted staff from Davao to fill the vacancies left by seven of his House of Representatives (HoR) staff.

Duterte’s statement came on the heels of the statement of ACT-CIS Representative Eric Yap who admitted that he was the one who asked for the resignation of Duterte’s chief of staff Atty. Sherwin Castañeda and six of his staff.

Yap had earlier said that he asked for Castañeda’s resignation as he was also the one who recommended him to serve as Duterte’s chief of staff. He added that he received numerous complaints of mismanagement under Castañeda.

Duterte, in his statement, said that since Yap has already issued a statement, “for the details on why they resigned I think it would be best if Atty. Castañeda should answer that question because for me tapos na ang lahat and we parted ways na maayos.”

The resignation letters of Castañeda and his six staff were submitted to the Office of Yap on August 10, and he intended it to be discreet so as to protect Castañeda and his staff.

Duterte said he was surprised that a website came out with the story and did not even bother to ask for his side.

The young congressman said he is now planning to bring in some of his trusted staff from his Davao district office to the House of Representatives to help run the office.

Duterte said he is almost done filling up the vacant positions with the help of Yap’s staff. He is also hoping for a smooth transition and a more effective delivery of service to the constituents of the first district of Davao City.
