A Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) personnel was sacked from his post for extorting money from a motorist last week.
This stemmed from a complaint lodged by a motorist last week via social media against the personnel who supposedly asked P1,000 in exchange of non-issuance of violation receipt against the motorist last Friday.
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Thursday commended MTPB chief Dennis Viaje for his swift action after issuing a termination of service against one of his personnel for "irregularities in the performance" of the latter's duties.
"May violation po kami at nakiusap po kami dahil first time ko po magkaviolation. P1,000 po yung nakuha sa'min, siya pa nagturo sa'min sa pagaabot ng pera at kung saan isisingit (We had a violation and talked to the MTPB personnel since it's our first time. P1,000 was gotten from us, and the personnel even instructed us how to give the money and where to put it)," the complainant said in a message sent through Manila public information office's Facebook page.
Moreno reiterated his campaign that corrupt personnel should have no place in Manila.
"Tulad po ng ating pangako, walang puwang ang mga tolongges sa Maynila. Pagmalasakitan po natin ang bawat motorista at manatili po tayong tapat sa ating sinumpaang tungkulin (Like what we've promised, erring officers have no place in Manila. Be sympathetic to our motorists and let's be honest in our sworn duty)," he said.
