Calabarzon mega quarantine facility to open by end-August in Calamba

A mega quarantine facility for Region 4-A or the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon area is expected to open by the end of the month in Calamba City, Laguna.

Deputy chief implementer and testing czar Secretary Vince Dizon during an inspection of the facility’s ongoing construction today said that Laguna is one of their priorities because of the spike in COVID-19 cases in the past months.

"Isa to sa mga interventions na tinutulong ng national government para sa probinsya ng Laguna (This is one of the interventions provided by the national government for the province of Laguna)," Dizon said.

Dizon added that according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the facility is 80 percent complete. The testing czar said that this facility might even be bigger than the biggest mega quarantine facility in Metro Manila located at Nayong Pilipino in Paranaque City with a 525-bed capacity.

The Calabarzon mega quarantine facility has 650 beds, 97 of which will be for healthcare workers and 553 for positive, mild, and asymptomatic patients.

The facility, according to Dizon, is the idea of Calamba Mayor Timmy Chipeco when their team first arrived in Laguna last month. Chipeco and Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez spoke to them about the facility which can be developed into a mega quarantine center.

Meanwhile, Dizon said that they plan to check next week the progress of the Nayong Pilipino quarantine facility which is nearing completion. It is funded by the Razon Group through its construction arm Prime Metro BMD Corp. and Bloomberry Cultural Foundation Inc.

He explained that this mega quarantine center in Metro Manila is one of the additional COVID-19 facilities that will be built to service Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Region 4-A. These additional facilities, he added, will have a total capacity of 3,000 beds.
