New LPA off Samar may develop into a tropical depression

A new low pressure area (LPA) east of the country may develop into a tropical depression in the next three to four days, a weather forecaster said on Wednesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) spotted the LPA at 915 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar around 3 a.m.

Weather specialist Chris Perez said the LPA has no direct effect yet on the country's weather condition as of Wednesday but PAGASA is also not ruling out the possible intensification of the LPA to a tropical depression in the next three to four days.

He noted that based on the initial forecast, the potential cyclone has a slim chance of making landfall but may enhance the southwest monsoon or "habagat" in the coming days.

The next cyclone will be named "Julian."

As of Wednesday,  typhoon "Bavi," is still enhancing the habagat, bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.
"Bavi" was called "Igme" when it was still inside the Philippine area of responsibility last weekend.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers within the next 24 hours.

A gale warning remains in effect on Wednesday due to strong winds associated with the southwest monsoon enhanced by typhoon "Bavi."

Rough seas may prevail over the northern seaboard of Batanes and Babuyan Islands, thus small boats are prevented from setting sail over these waters.

Meanwhile, fishing boats and other small boats are safe to sail over the rest of the country’s coastal waters due to slight to moderate sea conditions.
