Duterte signs 9 new laws
President Duterte has recently signed nine new laws, including five measures converting provincial roads to national roads.
The new laws included three measures related to the creation of district engineering offices and one granting the franchise renewal of a broadcasting company. The laws were signed by the President last August 14 and published in Tuesday's newspaper.
The five road conversion measures are the following:
- Republic Act No. 11483 or an Act converting Sta. Ignacia-Guimba Provincial Road in the provinces of Tarlac and Nueva Ecija via Gerona-Pura Road stretching from Barangay Nambalan, municipality of Sta. Ignacia to Barangay Buenavasita, municipality of Pura, all in the province of Tarlac into a national road;
- Republic Act No. 11484 or an Act converting the road stretching from Barangay Anduyan, municipality of Tubao, province of La Union to Barangay San Pascual, municipality of Tuba, province of Benguet into a national road;
- Republic Act No. 11485 or an Act converting Guimba-Talugtug-Umingan Provincial Road located in the municipalities of Guimba and Talugtug, all in the province of Nueva Ecija, and the municipality of Umingan, province of Pangasinan, into a national road;
- Republic Act No. 11486 or an Act converting the road network connecting Barangay Grijalvo in the municipalities of San Fernando and Bula in Camarines Sur into a national road;
- Republic Act No. 11487 or an Act converting the Albay Diversion Road in municipalities of Minalabac, Bula and Nabua, all in the province of Camarines Sur, into a national road;
These laws included a provision directing the Secretary of Public Works and Highways to include the improvement and maintenance of these roads in the DPWH program. Funding will also be included in the annual national budget.
The President also inked the law transferring the location of the Sorsogon Second District Engineering Office from Bulan, Sorsogon to Gubat, Sorsogon. Republic Act No. 11488 amended Republic Act No. 9689 to foliate the transfer of the engineering office.
Also signed by the President is Republic Act No. 11489 creating a district engineering office in the seventh district of Cebu province. The office will be located in the municipality of Dumanjug.
Under Republic Act No. 11490, a third district engineering office will be established in the municipality of M'lang, province of Cotabato.
The President also signed Republic Act No. 11491 renewing for another 25 years the franchise of Crusaders Broadcasting System Inc.
Under its franchise, the company is allowed to construct, establish, operate and maintain commercial radio and television broadcasting stations within the Philippines. The appropriate permits and licenses must be obtained from the National Telecommunications Commission.
