Remulla pushes for delay in online taxation

CAVITE - Governor Jonvic Remulla called on the national government Monday (August 24) to delay the imposition of taxes on small business entrepreneurs selling goods online.

The governor said many Filipinos affected by the economic restrictions of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic have turned to online selling to make ends meet and government should lend a hand to entrepreneurs striving to generate income without relying on the Social Amelioration Program to survive in the pandemic.

"Rather than impose taxes, we should create programs, encourage and inspire people to shift to the new digital economy," Remulla wrote on his Facebook page.

"There is no reason not to support those who are crafty, resourceful, street smart, and adaptive to the modern world. Please, let us not burden them," he added. "Rather, let us work together to make their numbers grow. Let us boost their spirits so that someday, they may be big enough to pay bigger taxes."

Last week, Remulla announced that a free WiFi system in Cavite is in the works to equip students for online learning. He mentioned that the project can also be used for research, online retail, and knowledge generation once the economy overcomes present challenges.
