LPA east of Bicol may develop into tropical depression

The low-pressure area (LPA) east of Bicol Region is now seen to gradually intensify and may develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday.

PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 120 kilometers north of Daet, Camarines Norte before Thursday noon.

Once this weather disturbance intensifies into a tropical depression, PAGASA will be giving it its local name “Igme,” most likely the sixth tropical cyclone to enter or form inside the Philippine area of responsibility this month.

“The public and local disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to continue monitoring for updates regarding the potential development of this weather disturbance,” PAGASA said.

The LPA and the southwest monsoon or "habagat" may continue to bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Quezon, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental within 24 hours. Scattered rains and thunderstorms may also prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

PAGASA warned that flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies apart from isolated rain showers due to afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
