Bacoor extends market lockdown

BACOOR CITY, Cavite - The city government of Bacoor has extended the lockdown on the Bacoor City Public Market as it awaits the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) swab results of over 900 market vendors and employees.

Mayor Lani Mercado Revilla signed Executive Order No. 37 extending the lockdown until 5 a.m. of August 22, Saturday.

The market was initially placed under lockdown on August 11, after eight vendors and a security marshal tested positive for the virus.

On August 13, the City Health Office (CHO) conducted an expanded targeted testing of about 1,000 vendors, stall tenants, staff, and marshals, including ambulant vendors and sellers from smaller markets around the vicinity.

However, as of August 17, only 53 results -- which turned out negative -- were released to the city government.

The CHO has been tasked to actively coordinate with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) to ensure that the swab test results will be released on or before August 22.

The extended lockdown will be used to complete disinfection as well as construction and preparation works for the new normal.

As of August 16, the city has recorded 1,095 COVID-19 cases, with 590 recoveries and 52 deaths.
