9 minors in Davao City brgy test positive for COVID-19

DAVAO CITY - At least nine minors were among those who have tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Barangay Kapitan Tomas Montevede Sr, Agdao district here, where a purok was recently placed under hard lockdown.

Based on the profiles of confirmed COVID-19 cases for August 16, the youngest of the minors was a one-month old girl, and the oldest was 17, who is also a female.

The Department of Health (DOH) in Davao Region data also showed that there were four other girls, including a 14-year old, a nine-year old and two who are aged three years old. The data includes three boys aged 16, 13, and 11.

The nine minors were among the 55 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Davao region who were recorded on Sunday, August 16.

Of these new cases, 30 came from Barangay Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. The minors were shown to have been exposed to confirmed cases.

According to the COVID-19 Regional Weekly Case Bulletin by the DOH released on Monday, August 17, Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr tops the list of the barangays with the highest number of cases recorded.

The bulletin showed that for the past 14 days, 35 cases were recorded in the said barangay; 18 cases were recorded in Buhangin and 15 were recorded in Ma-a.

The Davao City COVID-19 Task Force has already placed Purok 8 of Barangay Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. under “hard lockdown” on Monday afternoon after 65 residents tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, nine new cases were recorded on Monday bringing the total number of confirmed cases recorded to 1,786. The DOH said 486 of these are still active cases.

Seven of these new cases are from Davao City and one each from Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur.

The DOH also reported one death in Davao City and 11 recoveries. Among the recoveries, six are from Davao City, three are from Davao del Norte, two are from Davao de Oro. The region has reported a total of 60 deaths and 1,240 recoveries.
