Sevilla Bridge that links Mandaluyong and Manila now open to motorists

The reconstruction of Sevilla Bridge that crosses San Juan River from Mandaluyong to Manila has been completed and was fully opened to motorists on Monday.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the four-lane Sevilla Bridge is now fully opened, providing motorists an alternate link from Shaw Boulevard in Burol, Mandaluyong City and P. Sanchez Street in Sta. Mesa, Manila

“Now that the new Sevilla Bridge is open to the traveling public, it should help decongest traffic in Metro Manila and benefit the daily motorists,” Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said.

Sevilla Bridge was initially opened to the public on June 26, 2020 for the lanes going to Shaw Boulevard while its opposite lanes were completed a week after.

The bridge reconstruction project, which was done in partnership with San Miguel Corp. (SMC), involved a 56.76-linear meter single span with a total width of 19.40 meters composed of 7.65 meter carriageway and 1.5 meter sidewalk (northbound and southbound), and 1.1-meter center island.

Following its closure in March, the bridge was reconstructed to allow and give way for the construction works of the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 project.

“The reconstruction of Sevilla Bridge also helps in ensuring the smooth flow of water in the San Juan River where it stands, resulting in flood mitigation in the area especially during the rainy season,” Villar said.
