Manila City Engineer Armand Andres said the project is under their street lighting program to brighten up major thoroughfares in the city.

Earlier, the Manila city government installed hundreds of street lamps along Taft Avenue in Ermita and España Boulevard in Sampaloc.

They also installed solar studs along Antonio Villegas Street near the Manila City Hall.

Andres said they are planning to install solar studs along Taft Avenue, Burgos Drive, and Rizal Avenue from Carriedo up to the boundary of Manila and Caloocan.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is also conducting similar street lighting projects in other parts of the city, he added.

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso earlier said installing proper lighting along the city's streets will help lessen incidents of crime that usually happen in dark areas.
