Weather to improve in the next few days - PAGASA

The weather condition in the country, especially in Luzon, will gradually improve over the next few days due to the weakening of the southwest monsoon or "habagat" with tropical storm "Mekkhala" moving further away.

"Mekkhala" was identified as "Ferdie" here. It left the Philippine area of responsibility last Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of "Mekkhala" at 480 kilometers (km) northwest of Basco, Batanes around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said light to moderate with at times heavy rains may still be felt in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Batanes, the Babuyan group of islands, Zambales, and Bataan within the next 24 hours.

Occasional monsoon rains may also persist in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Tarlac.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Aurelio advised the public to remain alert as the threat of flooding and landslide remains high.

A gale warning also remains in effect on Tuesday due to strong winds associated with the southwest monsoon.

PAGASA asked fisherfolk particularly those using small boats not to set sail over the northern, western, and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon.
