Dingdong Dantes in character on Philippine version of 'Descendants of the Sun'

Lead actors Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado are happy that the Philippine adaptation of “Descendants Of The Sun (DOTS)” was recognized at this year's Seoul International Drama Awards.

The show was recognized as Most Popular Drama of the Year no less.

The primetime series was included in the list of winners together with two other foreign dramas “Snowpiercer” produced by US broadcaster TNT and “The New Pope” produced by Sky Atlantic and HBO.

He who plays Captain Lucas Manalo and she who breathes life into Dr. Maxine Dela Cruz in the local adaptation expressed gratitude over the milestone.

"A proud member of Team DOTS here! Congratulations to the men and women behind the show!” Dingdong wrote.

In a separate post, Jennylyn said, "Maraming salamat po sa karangalan na 'to! Congrats to the DOTS Team! Para sa inyo po ito, mga Kapuso!"

"DOTS" is a 2016 South Korean television series starring Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo, Jin Goo, and Kim Ji-won, which was broadcast across Asia where it was hugely popular.

For the Philippine remake, GMA inked a partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines for accurate representation of the country’s military forces.

Seoul International Drama Awards.has been honoring excellence in television drama productions worldwide for 15 years now.

This year’s festival will be held on Sept. 10 at MBC Media Center Public Hall without an audience.
