Family of 4 killed, cop wounded in drug-raid shootout


ZAMBOANGA CITY – Four members of a family, who were allegedly engaged in gun-for-hire  and drug trade activities, were killed while a policeman was wounded when authorities in full-battle gear swooped down on the hideout of the suspects in Barangay Recodo here at dawn Tuesday, August 11.

Police Regional Office for Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) Director Police Brig Gen Jesus D Cambay Jr. said policemen from the Ayala Police Station conducted an operation against Nurhassan L. Jallao, notorious gang leader and members of his family in Purok 6, Barangay Recodo in this city, about 12 kilometers west of the city proper.

The police operations resulted in a shootout between the lawmen and the suspects at about 3:45 a.m., Tuesday.

Cambay identified those who were killed as Jamiri Abdurahim, father; and his three sons -: Abdulbaki Abdurahim,   Patti Abdurahim and a Jimboy Saliento

Critically wounded was Police Staff Sergeant Larry Balasabas. He was hit at the side of his head and was immediately brought to the Ciudad Medical hospital in this city  for medical  treatment.

Cambay said the primary target of the raid was Jallao, but he was able to escape during the shootout.

Jallao has a standing warrant of arrest murder dated August 17, 2018.

According to Cambay,  the suspects, sensing that they were already surrounded by policemen, immediately engaged the lawmen in a shootout that resulted in the death of four members of their family.

This transpired after another police team from the Zamboanga City Police Station 11 conducted a drug buy bust operation on at about 8:20 p.m. Monday in San Isidro Pantano, Barangay San Roque in this city that resulted in the arrest of three drug dealers.

The police seized from them about 150  grams of suspected shabu with an estimated market value at P1.1  million.

Arrested were Asmad Alangan, 53, a resident of Pantano, Barangay  San Roque; Melyn Jimlan, 32, of Asinan, Barangay  Kasanyangan; and Onaid Julhan, 54, and a resident of  Barangay  Tulungatung all in this city.

The suspects are now detained at the Zamboanga City Police Station 11 while the confiscated items were brought to the police criminal laboratory for examination.
