By now, many people have heard of what happened to John Regala.

The actor is recuperating from liver cirrhosis in the hospital, thanks to some of his friends in show business who came together to help tide him over.

As of writing, according to a post by Chuckie Dreyfus who is helping him out, John is receiving anti-inflammatory steroids to address the excruciating pain he is feeling caused by gout.

“John still faces a very long road to recovery and because of that we are asking for your continuous prayers and support,” Chuckie wrote on Facebook.

Remember that a week ago, driver Carlo Marti Clariza posted a picture of John who, just then, asked for his help. The good Samaritan said John was very dizzy and he could hardly speak due to his condition. Carlo sought help from barangay officials in Pasay who assisted him.

The post went viral. Several showbiz personalities namely Nadia Montenegro, Chuckie Dreyfus, Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) head Liza Diño and Aster Amoyo came out to help. Among other things, they upped a Facebook Page of Gava Gives for donations to John.

Raffy Tulfo also picked up on the viral post. He contributed hundred thousand pesos and featured John on “Raffy Tulfo in Action.”

During the interview, John, who looked frail and was slurring, said, “Binigyan ako ng taning ng duktor ko ng limang taon, nasa ika-anim na taon na ako. Ang tanging gusto ko lang bago ko ipikit ang mata ko ay makausap ang aking asawa at anak na nasa Amerika.” (I was only given by the doctor five years to live, and I am on my sixth year now. All I ask before I finally close my eyes is to be able to speak to my wife and kid who are in the United States right now. “

Raffy granted John’s first wish to speak with his former wife, Aurina Hunt. However, his son John Paul Kieffer was not yet ready to talk to his estranged father.

John also said in the interview, “Huwag niyo akong tularan” (Don’t do what I did). Recall that in 2016, in another interview aired on “24 Oras,” John admitted he took illegal drugs for 13 years.

John remains at the National Kidney Transplant Institute. Other personalities who’ve extended help to him are former Philippine President Erap Estrada, Mayor Richard and Lucy Gomez, and Rez Cortez.
