Romualdez pays tribute to Lim's six-decade long public service
House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez paid tribute Sunday to late former Senator and Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim’s six-decade long service to the government, citing the latter’s valuable contribution to the country’s fight against illegal drugs and criminality.
He extended his sympathies to the family of Lim, whose "legacy of law and order” as the country’s “Dirty Harry” will not be forgotten.
“He was a decorated police officer who was tough on crime, a powerful force in maintaining law and order, and a dedicated public servant who served the country for almost six decades in various capacities,” Romualdez said.
He recalled that Lim got the “Dirty Harry” tag for his steadfast commitment to fight against criminality and illegal drugs.
“His malasakit (compassion) in maintaining peace and order was intended to ensure a safer environment for the Filipino people and give his poor constituents a better life especially the masses,” Romualdez said.
Lim passed away on Saturday due to complications brought about by COVID-19. He was 90.
Romualdez described Lim as "a very selfless and respectful leader.”
“I join our friends with thoughts of comfort in extending our sincere sympathies to the Lim family during this very painful time. He will be
included in our prayers,” said Romualdez. “His brilliant leadership and friendship will be missed, but he will never be forgotten. He lived a full life as a public servant. His legacy will continue,” he said.
Lim, who started his government career as a patrolman in the Manila Police Department, served as Manila City mayor from 1992 to 1998 and was given another mandate from 2007 to 2013.
During the administration of late President Corazon Aquino, Lim assumed as the director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). He was also appointed as secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) during the Estrada administration.
