PBA: Abueva focused on return despite offers abroad

Calvin Abueva is flattered by the offers to play overseas but insisted that his main focus is to complete the process of his possible reinstatement in the PBA.

“Actually marami pong nag-offer sa akin simula nung nasuspinde ako,” Abueva told Noli Eala on the former PBA Commissioner’s radio program Power and Play on 92.3 News FM Saturday morning.

The Phoenix Super LPG star revealed on his Instagram account that an agent texted him regarding an offer from a Japanese club which came a few days after former Ateneo star Thirdy Ravena signed with the San-En Neophoenix.

Abueva also said on the radio program that he got an invite to play in Thailand as well as on the local front in the regional MPBL.

But Abueva remains firm on staying around and hopefully fulfilling his wish of playing in the PBA once again.

“Actually, hindi pa po ako umo-oo sa mga ganyan, ang inaano ko po kasi may dapat po akong tapusin dito sa problema ko bago ako kunin ng iba,” Abueva said.

“Ang akin po, siyempre dito po ako sumikat at siyempre dito rin po ako magtatapos. At kung aalis ka bigla-bigla na may problema ka dito, parang pagbalik mo, sirang-sira ka,” added Abueva.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial hit Abueva with an indefinite suspension in June 2019 for a pair of incidents that happened in a matter of three days.

Marcial later gave Abueva several conditions before being allowed to return, first by apologizing for making a lewd gesture at the girlfriend of Ray Parks Jr. and for hitting import Terrence Jones with a clothesline.

Abueva also took part in outreach activities, underwent drug testing and attended psychological therapy sessions.
