Vice President Leni Robredo said the local government units may replicate the Naga Migrant Resource Center to help overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families.

Robredo, a leader of the opposition, said she hoped other LGUs in the country will establish their own support mechanisms for OFW families.
“Parang worthwhile siya na i-replicate in a sense na inaalagaan ng LGU ‘yung mga pamilyang naiiwan (It seems worthwhile to replicate it in a sense the LGU takes care of the families they left behind),” she said in an interview with Frich (Free and Rich) Revolution streamed on Facebook.
“Parati ko ino-offer na tingnan ‘yung programa sa Naga how it works kasi sobrang laki ng tulong para sa pamilya (I always offer to them to look at the program in Naga how it works because it’s a big help to the families),” she added.
Robredo stressed the key role of local governments in providing skills training, counseling, livelihood, and employment assistance for families of Filipino workers abroad.
The Naga Migrant Resource Center, the first of its kind in the country, offers pre-and post-deployment and reintegration services.
Located in the city’s business district, the MRC provides a one-stop shop that also covers skills training.
The Vice President believes the creation of a localized migrant center providing such services will enable the development of OFW families and prepare them in the future.
“Ang pinaka-dream talaga natin dadating iyong araw na malakas pa tayong lahat, iyong mga OFWs makakauwi sa pamilya at ma-e-enjoy naman ‘yung time sa pamilya. Mangyayari lang naman ito kapag napaghandaan natin (Our dream really is the day will come all of us are still strong, the OFWs will come home and enjoy their time with their families. This will only happen if we prepare for it),” she said.
The Frich Revolution is a global campaign that aims to empower OFWs to have a free and rich life. Such movement also helps Filipino workers abroad through financial literacy.
During her interview, Robredo also spoke to OFWs from Japan, Malaysia, Italy, United Kingdom, Israel, France, and Middle East countries.
