COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos now 9,725


Cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad now totals 9,725 with 15 new confirmed cases on Saturday, August 8, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

Four new recovered patients were also reported, bringing the total recoveries among overseas Filipinos to 5,760.

There were five new fatalities, taking the death tally to 708.

According to the Foreign Affairs department, the updated cases came from only six countries in Asia and the Pacific, Middle East, and Europe.

“Compared to last week’s percentages, the total number of Filipinos who have recovered from COVID-19 as of today slightly increased to 59.23 percent of the total confirmed cases,” the agency said.

“While those who are under treatment decreased to 33.49 percent. Meanwhile, the percentage of those who died due to the disease remained at 7 percent,” it added.

Based on the latest data, most of the confirmed cases among overseas Filipinos were recorded in the Middle East with 6,832 cases. A total of 4,085 of them have already recovered. Most of the deaths were also reported in the region with 430 fatalities.

Europe has 1,143 confirmed cases, with 547 recoveries, and 95 deaths. The Asia Pacific Region has 988 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among migrant Filipinos, with 681 recoveries, and 8 deaths.

While the Americas has the lowest number of confirmed cases with 762; it recorded 175 deaths, the second highest number of fatalities among infected Filipinos abroad. It also reported a total of 447 recoveries.
