1 dead, 2 missing as picnic turns tragic for friends in Cauayan City

ISABELA— A 13-year-old student drowned, while her two other companions were reported missing on Friday afternoon, August 7, as their picnic gathering by the Cagayan River turned tragic in Barangay Baringin Norte, Cauayan City, Isabela.

The body of Previous Calati, a student and resident of Barangay Labinab, Cauayan City, was recovered near the Alicaocao bridge around 12:40 a.m., Saturday.

Her companions – Jessa Mae Ballad, 15, also of Barangay Labinab, and Nerish Domingo, 15, from Barangay Dominit – were reported missing.

According to a police report, the three frings went to Barangay Baringin Norte Friday to have a picnic, and to go swimming in the Cagayan River.

It was while they were taking a swim that they reportedly disappeared.

Rescue teams have been deployed to search for the two other missing teenagers.
