8 cops among 11 new COVID-19 cases in Tarlac

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Eleven patients, including eight police personnel, were the latest confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Tarlac, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday.

This brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province to 113, 57 of whom were active cases.

The Tarlac COVID-19 Task Force said the eight infected police personnel have a history of exposure to a co-worker, who earlier tested positive for the disease.

The patients underwent swab tests on August 2, and got the positive results on August 5.

Seven of them will be quarantined at the National Government Administrative Center in New Clark City, Capas, while the other police personnel was taken to the Enrique Henry Cojuangco Memorial District Hospital in Moncada.

Last August 2, the DOH confirmed that three police officers and one non-uniformed personnel assigned at the Bamban Police Station were infected with the dreaded disease. They are now quarantined at the National Government Administrative Center.

Meanwhile, another infected patient, a 45-year-old female from Barangay San Vicente, had also a history of close contact with another COVID-19 patient.

She was swabbed on August 5, and the result came out on August 6. The patient is confined to a private hospital.

The other two new cases were a 35-year-old male from Barangay Luna, Gerona, and a 41-year-old male from Barangay Canan, Paniqui.

The task force also reported that the total number of recoveries was at 48, while the total number of deaths was 11.

Governor Susan Yap reminded her constituents to strictly follow the health protocols to protect themselves from the dreaded disease.

“Let’s do our share - wear mask, wash hands frequently, practice social distancing, and avoid crowded places. Stay safe and healthy,” the governor said.

In its intensified campaign to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, the provincial government has imposed stricter border controls.

Aside from the documents being asked at the checkpoints such as identification card, proof or certificate of employment, travel pass, and travel authority from the place of origin, those entering the province are required to provide a COVID-19 negative test result from authorized testing laboratory or center and health declaration form.
