2 children rescued from raging flood waters in North Cotabato
COTABATO CITY – Two children were saved from drowning in raging flash floods that hit the upland town of Makilala in North Cotabato.

Heavy rain spawned by a low-pressure area (LPA) affecting Mindanao flooded creeks and rivers in Barangay Kisante, a village sitting beside Mt. Apo.
“The children were enjoying the 4 p.m. heavy downpour near the river when rampaging waters swept them away,” said Arnulfo Villaruz, warning chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Passers-by along the national highway noticed the two children being swept away by floodwaters at the huge roadside drainage, prompting them to rescue the minors.
They were identified as Necel Cortez, 3; and Althea Yanis Bioc, 7; both of Barangay Kisante, Makilala.
The two sustained bruises, and were brought to a hospital in Poblacion, Makilala.
Traffic flow was stopped for more than an hour until the water level at New Bulatukan River started receding around past 5 p.m.
North Cotabato Gov. Nancy Catamco said assessment on damage to infrastructure and residential areas continues as of posting.
