San Mateo LGU allows trikes, pedicabs under MECQ


SAN MATEO, Rizal- The municipal government has allowed the operation of tricycles and pedicabs in the municipality a few days after the town was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

In Mayor Tina Diaz's Executive Order No. 19, series of 2020, the local government allows the operation of 20 percent of the number of units per tricycle operators and drivers association (TODA) and of pedicabs, popularly known as "padyak."

Under the executive order, only one passenger per tricycle or pedicab is allowed to be transported at one time with the fare equivalent to two persons, with an additional charge of P2 for each additional kilometer in the lowland and P3 per kilometer in the upland villages.

Passengers and tricycle and pedicab drivers are required to wear face masks  and the passengers must have their home quarantine pass when traveling.  

The passenger should also register their name and contact number at the terminal, and the tricycle and pedicab units should have proper plastic barriers and regularly undergo sanitation at their respective terminals.
