Rain showers due to trough of LPA expected

The trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) may continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over some areas in the country in the next 24 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday afternoon.

Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Visayas,  and Mindanao will experience light to moderate to at times heavy rains.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA moved across the southern portion of Mindanao on Wednesday morning and was already over the Sulu Sea in the afternoon. 
At 3 p.m., the location of the LPA was estimated at 265 kilometers south-southeast of Puerto Princesa City.

"Unti-unting lalapit sa southern portion ng Palawan overnight Wednesday at posibleng tumawid papunta sa West Philippine Sea. Mapapanatili rin nya ang lakas bilang isang LPA. (It will slowly approach the southern portion of Palawan overnight Wednesday on its way to the West Philippine Sea. It may also maintain its strength as an LPA)," Estareja said.

Should it maintain its current track, the LPA will be outside the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday, he added.

Meanwhile, weather conditions in Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be warm from morning until noon but there is a possibility of isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

Estareja said that the western section of Luzon that includes Metro Manila may experience rains from Friday until Saturday due to the southwest monsoon or "habagat."
