The Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,462 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country on Wednesday, August 5.
The nationwide case tally rose to 115,980 while the number of active cases is at 47,587, the DOH said.
The death toll also hit 2,123 with nine more patients who succumbed to the disease. Meanwhile, 222 more people survived, raising the number of people who have recovered to 66,270.
"There were 75 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. We have also updated the outcomes of two cases. One was previously reported as death but updated as recovered and one case was previously reported as recovered but updated as death after final validation; these are already included in the count of new deaths and recoveries," the DOH noted.
Among the new infections, 2,434 were detected in the National Capital Region, 105 from Laguna, 101 from Rizal, 73 in Cavite, and 62 in Cebu.
“This isn’t a war fought by the national government or the local government alone. Everyone has a role to play. We implore everyone to BIDA Solusyon and strictly observe our minimum health standards,” said Health Secretary Francisco Duque III in a statement.
“This will save you and your loved ones from going to the hospital...Wearing of face masks, maintaining physical distance and frequent hand washing could effectively decrease the risk of infection,” he added.
