“Despite the underlying effects of the coronavirus disease and stringent community quarantine to the overall trading environment, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) was able to surpass its July 2020 collection target by 5 percent or P2.398 billion,” the bureau announced noting its original target of P47.674-billion for the month.

Based on the preliminary report from the Customs-Financial Service, 10 of 17 ports achieved their respective collection goal including the Port of Aparri, followed by the Port of Tacloban, Port of Limay, Port of Zamboanga, Port of Cagayan de Oro, Port of Davao, Port of Clark, Port of Cebu, Port of Batangas, and Port of Subic.

Three of the major ports, however, fell short.

The bureau has attributed its positive revenue collection performance to the improved valuation and volume of importation, coupled with the intensified collective effort of all ports.

“In addition, the increase can also be attributed to the government’s effort in ensuring unhampered movement of goods domestically and internationally considering the pandemic situation,” Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said.

The commissioner also commended the collective effort of the men and women of the Bureau of Customs “who despite the risk to their health and safety, showed their unwavering commitment and dedication to service.”

In June, the bureau also surpassed its collection target by logging P42.539 billion. It was 4.4 percent or P1.8 billion higher than the P40.739-billion target for the month.
