San Juan City to issue new quarantine passes

San Juan City will be issuing new quarantine passes to its residents to prevent fake ones from proliferating and ensure that only one member of a family may leave their residence during the period of a stringent community quarantine.

Mayor Francis Zamora said the local government is requiring residents to use quarantine passes to leave their homes during the two-week period of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

“Sa ilalim po ng MECQ ay muli po tayong magpapatupad ng paggamit ng quarantine pass, ngunit tayo po ay magkakaroon na ng bago at standard na design nito (Under MECQ we will again implement the use of the quarantine pass, but we will have a new and standard design of it),” Zamora said.

“Ito ay para siguraduhin na authentic at hindi fake ang mga nasabing quarantine pass (This is to ensure that the said quarantine passes are authentic and not fake),” he added.

On Monday (Aug. 3), Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año said residents in areas reverted to MECQ will be again required to use quarantine passes whenever they go out of their residence.

The San Juan City government has already ordered the printing of the redesigned quarantine passes, which will then be turned over to the barangays starting Tuesday (Aug. 3).

Zamora said the new quarantine passes will be distributed to residents this week, adding that only one pass will be given to each family to limit the number of people allowed to go out.

The mayor said residents must use new quarantine passes starting Saturday (Aug. 8), but he noted that the old quarantine passes may still be used until Friday (Aug. 7).

For workers of businesses allowed to operate under MECQ, Zamora said they only need to present their company ID at the checkpoints to pass through, adding that work passes will no longer be needed.

Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces were placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting Tuesday until Aug. 18.
