Old Iloilo power distributor slammed for distorting data submitted to ERC

ILOILO CITY— Panay Electric Co. (PECO), the old power distributor in this city, is under fire for allegedly distorting data submitted to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in reference to power outages occurring under More Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power).

“PECO not only double counted, it counted one brown-out period 16 times. PECO included in its count two brown-outs that did not happen,” said MORE Power in its reply to a petition filed by PECO before the ERC.

PECO claimed that Iloilo City had a total 412.20 hours of power outages between February 29 and July 16 under MORE Power. It also further claimed that the combined power outage under MORE Power was much higher than its System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI).

But MORE Power pointed out that there were only 182.13 hours of power interruptions from February 29 to July 16.

MORE Power considered PECO to have deliberately lied with the multiple counting, which is against the mandated method of recording interruptions under ERC Resolution No. 2008-12.

MORE Power also slammed PECO as the latter only based the numbers of interruptions as announced on MORE Power’s Facebook page.

This was the latest development as PECO is requesting ERC to give back its certification of public convenience and necessity (CPCN), which was cancelled earlier this year after a local court gave the go-signal for MORE Power’s takeover of PECO’s facilities and operations as granted in the law that gave the latter its franchise.
