Nat'l Printing Office closes after 32 workers became infected with coronavirus

The National Printing Office (NPO) went on two-week lockdown starting August 3 after 32 employees became infected with the new coronavirus disease.

In a statement, the NPO said 32 out of the 445 employees tested positive in the RT-PCR tests conducted by the Philippine Red Cross from July 29 to 30.

NPO, an attached agency of PCOO, handles the printing of the country's ballots and government forms used in collection of taxes and other fees. 

"All 32 active cases were already referred to the appropriate agency and local government unit concerned," the advisory read.

Due to the coronavirus infections, the NPO has suspended work from August 3 to 14 in the office located in Quezon City to pave the way for the disinfection and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The temporary work suspension is also in compliance with the 14-day quarantine for employees with the coronavirus and their close contacts.

"The NPO has adopted a work-from-home arrangement during this period, while precautionary measures in line with existing safety policies are continually being implemented within the office," the statement read.

NPO Director Francisco Vales Jr. said they will return to work at the office on August 17, Monday. 

Meantime, the PCOO proper has reported 27 active coronavirus cases and one death as of August 4. 
Twelve more active coronavirus cases have been recorded in other PCOO attached offices.
