Muntinlupa sets up checkpoints to limit movement

The Muntinlupa police have set up checkpoints in city boundaries Tuesday at the start of the 15-day modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) imposed in Metro Manila and four provinces.

These are located in Bgy. Tunasan; Muntinlupa-San Pedro, Laguna boundary; Susana Heights toll gate; and Filinvest Alabang. The police will also set up checkpoints in barangay boundaries to limit non-essential travels. 

Old quarantine passes issued by the city are still valid and can be used by residents when leaving their homes to buy supplies, according to Muntinlupa City spokesperson Tez Navarro. 

Essential workers can show their employment certificates or company IDs when required at

checkpoints.  

The Muntinlupa City Council is scheduled to hold a special session Wednesday (Aug. 5) to discuss the implementation of curfew hours, liquor ban, issuance of quarantine passes and mandatory use of face masks. 

Some offices have limited their operations starting Tuesday, Aug. 4. The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) temporarily suspended the processing of applications from walk-in applicants. 

The Muntinlupa Scholarship Program has suspended its Drop Box applications and will only accept email applications during the MECQ period. 

City taxpayers can process their transactions online. The Muntinlupa Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) and City Assessor’s Office announced electronic transactions including the processing of requests for quarterly local business tax assessment, real property tax, order of payment, and copy of assessor’s certification to limit physical transactions.

The Alabang Public Market will retain the market schedule to limit the entry of people. District 1 and non-Muntinlupa residents can go to the market on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays while District 2 residents can do their marketing on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Monday is reserved for disinfection and sanitation of stalls and other areas of the market.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi urged residents to stay at home and strictly follow health protocols such as frequent hand washing, physical distancing, wearing of face masks and proper cough etiquette.  

As of August 3, Muntinlupa has 1,634 confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases including 803 recoveries and 75 deaths.
