Former senator, television and radio broadcaster Edgar "Eddie" Ilarde passed away on Tuesday, August 4. He was 85.
Ilarde's death was reported by radio DZBB, where he had a program before community quarantine was imposed in March to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Quoting relatives, DZBB reported that Ilarde died at around 11:40 a.m. of Tuesday in his home in Makati City. His remains will be cremated immediately.

Ilarde was known for hosting television programs such as the noon-time variety show "Student Canteen" which ran from 1950 to 1990; and radio programs "Kahapon Lamang", as well as "Dear Kuya Eddie" and "Napakasakit, Kuya Eddie" in the 1980's from which the song performed by singer Roel Cortez was based.
Ilarde also served as Pasay City councilor from 1963 to 1965 and later as an assemblyman in the Interim Batasang Pambansa. He also served as a senator during the Seventh Congress from 1970 to 1973.
