Army sees fall of rebel fronts soon; 6 rebels nabbed in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY - Maj. Gen. Eric Vinoya, commander of Army's Third Infantry Division (3ID), challenged local military units to deliver the final decisive blow that will cause the collapse of the rebel fronts operating in Negros island.

This, after the military troops and the police arrested last week six suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA), including three alleged high-ranking female leaders.

Personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Special Action Force (SAF) and 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB) responded to a report about the alleged presence of armed individuals at Sitio Victory, Barangay Minapasok, Calatrava town on July 30, when they allegedly saw the three armed women in the area.

It led to the capture of a certain Cristell Abordo, alias Dulay or Matt, regional communication/intelligence staff of Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor (KR-NCBS) of the Communist Party of the Philippines(CPP-NPA), and former medical staff of Regional Strike Force); Mary Dem Forones, alias Nancy, Mia, or Ayon, regional intelligence secretary/PI ROC and executive committee member of KR-NCBS); and Rossine Enyong, alias Lemay, Digna, Angel, or Mary Joy, PSR Listed and GP/MO, SYP Platoon of Central Negros (CN) 1.

Authorities recovered from them an M14 rifle, three revolvers with ammunition, four rifle grenades, eight cellular phones, medicines, and subversive documents with high intelligence value.

On August 2, joint personnel of Isabela Municipal Police Station, and 2nd Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company (Nocpmfc), and troops of the 62nd IB enforced three search warrants for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act against Weniefredo Carillo Sr., 51, vice commaning officer of Yunit Militia; Martillano Lindayao, 46; and Dimas Lindayao, 40, who were alleged members of CN1, Leonardo Panaligan Command-NPA (CN1, LPC-NPA) in Barangay San Agustin, Isabela town, according to the Army.

The warrants were issued by Executive Judge Cyclamen Jison Fernandez of  Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch - 63 in La Carlota City. Authorities recovered during the raid a .45 caliber pistol with one magazine and six live ammunition, and two .38 caliber revolvers with nine live ammunition.

The Army said that Dimas Lindayao had been previously charged for double murder, based on police records.

Vinoya highlighted the help and cooperation of the local populace in hunting down these armed individuals, adding that the NPA suffered consecutive setbacks with the arrest of their leaders in Calatrava town, and the apprehension of three members of the Yunit Militia in Isabela town.

He lauded the continued efforts of the Army to end the local Communist armed conflict in the island, as he thanked every personnel for a job well done.

He said every successful mission equates to hearing the clamor of the Negrenses for a genuine and lasting peace.

“Let us continue to carry out our task until the last enemy unit is dissolved and its members neutralized by either surrender, apprehension or, in the worst case, dead,” he added.

He said their campaign against insurgency should have no let-up despite the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
