Baguio adopts 'Disiplina Muna' program

BAGUIO CITY – The city government here adopted the “Disiplina Muna” advocacy campaign pioneered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

At City Hall, local officials headed by Mayor Benjamin Magalaong, together with heads and representatives from national line agencies and the private sector, launched and pledged support in accomplishing seven key points outlined by the DILG. 

The DILG-initiated advocacy promotes self-discipline to achieve clearing of roads; disaster preparedness and resilience; curbing smoking; ease of doing business; controlling liquor consumption; clean-up of tourist spots; and, the checking of drug use in the barangay level.

Magalong, who was earlier named by DILG as the Cordillera regional ambassador for the campaign, emphasized that the solution in preventing spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) starts with self-discipline.

He said: “Discipline always delivered results… and this is what has kept me going.”

“If everyone, by their own initiatives, observed minimum health requirements like frequent handwashing, wearing of facemasks and physical distancing, the spread of the virus may be abated substantially,” Magalong underscored.

Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan said the City Council will pass a resolution supporting the local “Disiplina Muna” campaign.
