7-day-old baby dies of COVID-19 in Davao Sur

DAVAO CITY - A seven-day old boy from Padada town in Davao del Sur province died a day after he was admitted in the hospital for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Based on the profiles of confirmed COVID-19 cases released by the Department of Health (DOH), the infant died on Monday and his history of exposure is still under investigation.

The child was admitted on Sunday, July 26. He was among the 27 individuals who were reported positive for COVID-19 as of 5:00 p.m. of July 25.

The infant was reported to have the onset of symptoms on July 20. 

The number of COVID-19 fatalities in the region is currently at 48 after two more deaths were recorded from Davao City on Wednesday, July 29.

The DOH, however, has yet to release the profile of the latest fatalities.  

Based on the profiles released on Monday, DOH Davao Center for Health Development reported 11 recoveries, including the recovery of a one-month-old boy from Matina Crossing in Davao City and an 11-year-old girl from Barangay Poblacion, Bansalan town in Davao del Sur. 

The girl was a locally stranded individual from Caloocan City.

Currently, there are 49 new cases of COVID-19 in the region.

"Of these new cases, 12 are Locally Stranded Individuals (LSI), four are Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF), five are for further verification, and 28 are local cases," the DOH said.

Davao region has already recorded 1,229 confirmed cases, 470 of which are still active cases. Meanwhile, the number of successful recoveries is at 711 after 18 more individuals were recorded to have recovered on Wednesday.
