DAVAO CITY - The city government of Mati and the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) met on Tuesday, July 28, to discuss the proposed construction of a five-hectare fish port complex.
In a statement, the city government of Mati said Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat met with top officials of the PFDA to discuss the P150-million project.
According to the city government, PFDA General Manager Atty. Glen A. Pangapalan said "that PFDA is considering to fund the proposed fish port on 2021-2022 to strengthen the fish supply in Mindanao along with Gensan and Davao as mother ports in Davao Region together with Malalag, Panabo, Mati and Tagum."
"The (PFDA) is seriously considering to fund the said project to be divided into two P75-million multi-year implementations," it added.
The proposed fish port in the city will be located in Purok Calagundian in Madang, Barangay Central.
Currently, PFDA has three fish ports in Mindanao, including General Santos Fish Port Complex, Davao Fish Port Complex, and Zamboanga Fish Port Complex.
Rabat said that the city "has no proper storage of sea products that is why the proposed fish port is really a big help to fisherfolks in Mati."
