Around 60 emergency medical frontliners from the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) are staying at the Madison Park Hotel in Tacloban City for free.
House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez, and Tingog party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez said the joint initiative conducted with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) has now benefited a total of 160 recipients all from the EVRMC.
The 60, composed of medical workers from EVRMC Magsaysay and Cabalawan were allowed 30 rooms at the hotel since July 25.
Eight days prior, 100 of their co-workers were given 50 rooms at the Leyte Park Hotel & Resort.
Tingog president Glenn Capucion noted the 100 will be accomodated at the Leyte Park Hotel and Resort up to three months.
“This is in recognition of our healthcare workers’ courageous stand to deliver the services needed by the people in this time of COVID-19 pandemic. Some of them even sacrificed their lives so that the sick and afflicted may live and many have remained committed to save lives by placing their own in peril,” the Romualdezes said.
“We are relentless and we will continue to double our efforts in collaboration with the Duterte administration to reopen the economy for the preservation of jobs, ensure medical frontliners’ protection and provide comfort for them to ease the fear, pressures and dangers of their profession. Our profound gratitude to all of them,” they added.
The two House leaders assisted the OCD in identifying the 160 medical workers.
Capucion added the OCD is also mulling a possible increase in the number of beneficiaries from 160 to 200 in the coming weeks.
The Romualdezes thanked OCD Region 8 Chairman Lord Byron P. Torrecarion “for a job well done” and for fulfilling its mandate to protect healthcare workers, by ensuring a safer place for them to stay.
The Romualdezes said full support should be extended to the medical workers, considering their sacrifices during this time of pandemic crisis.
Despite being overworked, underpaid and at great risk, our healthcare workers have remained committed to their mandate. They are our heroes for spearheading the fight against the COVID-19,” they said.
“We have to protect our medical workers from the stress of their work by ensuring that they have a safe and comfortable place to stay. Rest assured that your representatives in Congress are in close coordination with the Executive Department in trying to find ways on how to minimize the economic impact and social cost of COVID-19,” they said.
