Marikina City urges public to cooperate to end COVID-19

With 323 active cases in the city as of July 28, the Marikina city government reminded the public that their cooperation is needed to end the threat of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The local government on Tuesday (July 28) reported that the city currently has 713 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of that number, 353 have recovered and 37 have died.

Fifty of the city's active cases are in Barangay Malanday, which currently has the most number of COVID-19 infections with a total of 94 confirmed cases reported since the beginning of the outbreak.

“Ang inyong kooperasyon ay mahalaga upang mapuksa ang COVID-19 (Your cooperation is important in order to eradicate COVID-19),” the local government said.

Since the start of the pandemic, Marikina City has been one of the local government units in the country leading the fight against COVID-19.

The city government constructed its own molecular diagnostics laboratory to strengthen its arsenal against the disease. It also procured locally-developed COVID-19 test kits that are cheaper compared to imported test kits.

The city government also conducts enhanced targeted testing in various sectors in Marikina.

Following the easing of quarantine measures in Metro Manila, the city has employed the use of combined rapid test kits and swab tests on employees of sectors recently allowed to reopen, including the shoemaking industry for which Marikina is famous.

To avoid the further increase of COVID-19 cases, the city government reminded the public to strictly observe health and safety measures, including the wearing of face masks, proper cough etiquette, frequent hand washing, and social distancing.
