A project that aims to determine the diagnostic accuracy of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered chest x-ray reading for COVID-19 pneumonia has been approved by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD).
This was announced by DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Pena in his weekly report.
The project is called “A Retrospective Study on the Accuracy of AI-Powered Reading of Chest X-Ray in the Diagnosis of COVID-19 Pneumonia in a Tertiary Hospital (CHERISH)”.
"Record na lang ang pagaaralan kasi na x-ray na yung mga pasyente so babalikan nalang yung kanilang mga x-ray records at yun ang inaaanalyze kaya retrospective (Existing records of patients who underwent x-rays will be studied and analyzed, that's why it is retrospective)," the secretary said.
The study aims to determine the diagnostic accuracy of AI-powered chest x-ray reading for COVID-19 pneumonia, using the clinical data of all patients admitted at a tertiary hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic from March 1 to April 30.
This will be implemented for four months by the Medical City in Pasig under the leadership of Dr. Beatrice Tiango with an approved budget of P579, 695.
"Kasi may mga nagtatanong kung gaano kaeffective itong AI-powered chest x-ray reading for COVID-19 pneumonia (This was done since there were those who are asking the effectiveness of this I-powered chest x-ray reading for COVID-19 pneumonia)," Secretary dela Pena said.
Once assessed, the application may assist radiologists by identifying pulmonary abnormalities, such as opaque patches associated with viral pneumonia.
