4 Butuan City brgys placed under MECQ

BUTUAN CITY – Four urban barangays here have been reverted to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) to avert the further spread of the dreaded coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Barangays Baan Km.3, Bayanihan, Buhangin and Libertad were placed under MECQ from July 22 to August 5 after local coronavirus transmission were confirmed in these areas.

The 15-day MECQ was approved by the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases of the Caraga region.

“Tungod sa pagtaas sa kumpirmadong kaso sa Butuan, ilabi na sa mga local transmission, ang Butuan LGU gitugutan sa RTF nga ipailawom sa MECQ and upat ka barangay” (Due to high increase of positive cases in Butuan, especially on the reported local transmission, Butuan LGU was granted by the RTF to place under MECQ the said four barangays), reads part of the Butuan City Public Information Office (PIO) advisory

Under MECQ, there will only be limited movement of people going to work, and availing of essential services.

Currently, the remaining 82 barangays in Butuan are under general community quarantine (GCQ) that will last until July 31.

Even if the rest of the city is now under GCQ, the Butuan government urged residents to stay at home except when reporting for work, or buying essential goods like food and medicine, and carrying out essential tasks.

City officials also underscored the importance of stringent health protocols such as wearing of face mask in public and the continued prohibition on mass gatherings.

To date, the city has 55 COVID-19 cases with one death and 35 recoveries.
