Pasig residents under lockdown urged to obey quarantine measures
The residents of areas in Pasig City placed under localized lockdown were urged to cooperate and observe proper health and safety measures so that the lockdowns in their area could be lifted sooner.
The Pasig City government placed Ventura Compound in Barangay Dela Paz under localized enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) starting Monday (July 20) amid a surge of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the area.
A day before that, the local government placed Pipino, Labanos, Okra, and Ubas Streets in Barangay Manggahan under localized lockdown due to the increased number of virus infections there.
“Kung sumunod tayong lahat, mas mabilis din po matatapos ang localized ECQ sa inyo (If we all obey, your localized ECQ will end sooner),” Mayor Vico Sotto wrote in a tweet.
In a separate post, Sotto explained that localized ECQ was imposed on areas with a high incidence of COVID-19 infections.
The localized lockdown would be in effect “until lifted by the city government.”
Pasig City Police chief Col. Moises Villaceran Jr. has also appealed for the cooperation and understanding of affected residents.
“We need their continued cooperation and understanding. If they cooperate, the selective ECQ enforced in their area might be lifted sooner,” he said.
According to the police official, only a “few” individuals were caught by authorities violating lockdown protocols, saying some violators were seen not wearing face masks. They were issued ordinance violation receipts.
Under the lockdown rules, affected residents are only allowed to leave their houses for work and emergency reasons.
The local government has also begun distributing food packs to minimize the residents' need to leave their houses to buy food.
