BUTUAN CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) terrorist was killed, while an undetermined number of other rebels were believed wounded, when a fierce gun battle erupted between government forces and the rebels in Barangay Camp Edward, Alegria, Surigao del Norte on Monday, July 20.

High powered weapons and other war materials were also seized from the Communist terrorists in the encounter site.

Based on report, highland villagers tipped off the operating patrolling troops of the 30th Infantry Battalion (30th IB) about the presence of fully armed CNTs in the area.

The firefight lasted for about 30 minutes, and the responding soldiers were able to seize a hideout occupied by an estimated 30 members Guerilla Front 16 (GF 16) of the CPP-NPA North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).

Aside from the unidentified slain NPA, three AK47 rifles and one M16 rifle, assorted live ammunitions and personal belongings were also retrieved from the encounter site.

Only two soldiers were slightly injured during the clash.
