A 64-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing to death his 88-year-old father in Quezon City on Friday morning (July 17).
Police identified the suspect as Arnelito Alviz, who is now at the hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound on his left shoulder when he resisted police arrest. The victim was identified as Roberto Alviz, who died on the spot.
According to Quezon City Police District's (QCPD) public information office (PIO), Eduardo, the victim's other son, saw his father's body lying in a pool of blood after his other brother, Armando, told him that he heard a "commotion" inside their house.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. on Navarete St. in Barangay Del Monte.
The suspect, who is the victim's son and the brother of Eduardo and Armando, was accused of being behind their father's killing because the latter locked himself inside a room at their father's house following the incident.
He was armed with a knife and a handgun, his brothers told police.
Upon learning of the incident, police and barangay officers responding to the area tried to pacify and convince the suspect to surrender, but to no avail.
"This prompted them to seek help from QCPD SWAT Team, responded led to the arrest of the suspect, injuring him in the process," the police report read.
Police said they recovered a .38 caliber Armscor revolver loaded with four misfired bullets and two live bullets and a kitchen knife from the crime scene.
QCPD PIO head Lt. Johanna Sazon said police are still investigating the motive for the killing.
